We recognise that it is not easy to develop a sustainable organisational strategy that safeguards the heritage and offers new opportunities for visitors, whilst balancing the books.

With a fresh eye and practical approach, we enable and facilitate strategy development and planning. We aim to be insightful, supportive and analytical. We specialise in working with governing bodies and executive teams to get to the heart of the issues and map out a clear way ahead.

Our approach to business planning is based on over 50 years combined experience of direct service delivery, advice, support and assessment. We can also draw on additional financial, retailing and catering expertise. We encourage realism and ambition, taking pride in ensuring that the plans we produce are a succinct summary of the current situation and an accurate reflection of what’s possible.

Our project planning expertise has depth and breadth. We can not only help our clients to plan for a finite capital project, but make a positive difference to their organisation long-term. Our work frequently involves significant partnership development, with a focus on generating a consensus across disparate institutions on aims, objectives, outputs and outcomes. We also offer a life cycle approach to project planning from concept stage through to delivery and evaluation, such as at Quarr Abbey.

We often develop business and project plans in the context of emerging Heritage Lottery Fund applications.

Project description

Norton Priory is a medieval priory with an associated walled garden. It is situated in a largely residential area and relies a great deal on local visitors. It had a tired and difficult to operate ticketing system which was largely not understood by its visitors. There was a need to engage local people more successfully. CCN worked with the Director to find out the shortcomings of the present system and to facilitate sessions with staff to gain new ideas for a refreshed offer. We devised a new membership scheme which was cost effective and contained a number of benefits. We also devised an activity programme associated with membership to encourage repeat visiting. We also advised on the publicity programme for the new scheme and devised a timeline so staff could carry out the tasks in a quick and efficient manner to meet an event deadline they had set themselves. The number of members increased by 50% in the first six months of operation.
